Governor Newsom and California’s state legislature have approved a budget that will provide free pre-K for every California child, expand child care to 200,000 more working families, and raise pay for child care providers and preschool teachers.

Dear Governor Newsom and California State Legislature,

As a California resident, I agree with you: “There’s no greater investment we can make than investing in our kids early on.” Thank you for your transformative investment in early learning and care in the state budget, including:

• Free pre-kindergarten for every 4-year-old
• Child care for 200,000 more working families
• Better pay for child care providers and preschool teachers
• Funding to help early learning and care programs recover from the pandemic

Prioritizing early learning is important to so many families throughout the state, especially working families who need child care to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. These investments are vital for our communities to thrive. Most of all, they prepare a way for future generations.
